Examinations in English for Adults

University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations

The world’s most widely recognised qualifications in English as a foreign language are from the University of Cambridge.

The Cambridge ESOL Examinations Main Suite exams are designed for adult learners at all levels from elementary to very advanced. They test candidates’ English in a wide variety of contexts relevant to work, study and leisure.

At IH Costa Rica Instituto Britanico we offer the top three levels of the Main Suite with examinations in June and December each year:

  • El First Certificate in English (FCE)
  • El Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • El Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)

We ask candidates for the exams to take a short test to verify that they have the potential to pass. This can help to protect them from wasted expense. The test is free of charge.

We offer preparation courses for students who are within range of passing but who might benefit from some coaching in exam technique. These courses are held once a week between the date of enrolment and the exam.
