Examinations in Spanish
Instituto Cervantes
The world’s authority in the testing of Spanish as a foreign language is the Instituto Cervantes. It administers the programme of Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE).
The exams are designed for adult learners in three levels from elementary to advanced. They test candidates’ Spanish in a wide variety of contexts relevant to work, study and leisure.
In May and November each year we offer all three exams available from the Instituto Cervantes, which lead to the following qualifications:
- El Diploma de Español (Nivel Superior)
- El Diploma de Español (Nivel Intermedio)
- El Diploma de Español (Nivel Inicial)
We ask candidates for the exams to take a short test before enrolling to verify that they have the potential to pass. This can help to protect them from wasted expense. The test is free of charge.
We offer preparation courses for students who are within range of passing but who might benefit from some coaching in exam technique. These courses are held once a week between the date of enrolment and the exam.
For further information about the Instituto Cervantes examinations and preparation courses available at the IH Costa Rica Instituto Britanico, see Schedules and Prices.
