Diplomas in Spanish as a Second Language are official qualifications with international status awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport to confirm candidates’ level of linguistic ability in Spanish. Examinations are prepared and checked by the University of Salamanca.

 

The Instituto Cervantes is the world authority on the teaching and evaluation of Spanish as a foreign language and its Diplomas are recognised around the world by the private business sector, Chambers of Commerce, and public and private teaching establishments as the qualification that guarantees a level of linguistic ability in Spanish. IHCR Instituto Británico was the first authorised Instituto Cervantes examination centre in Central America.

 

EXAMINATIONS

 

The examinations leading to the Diplomas are available in all six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (see below) and test all four communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening).

 

Diploma de Español A1

Candidates have sufficient linguistic competence to understand and use daily expressions frequently used in any part of the Spanish-speaking world, aimed at satisfying immediate needs; asking and giving basic personal information about oneself and daily life and interacting on a basic level with speakers, whenever they are speaking slowly and clearly and are willing to cooperate.

 

Diploma de Español A2

Candidates are capable of understanding daily phrases and expressions frequently used related to areas of experience which are particularly relevant to them (basic information about oneself and one’s family, shopping, places of interest, occupations, etc.).

 

Diploma de Español B1

Candidates have sufficient knowledge of the language to allow control in situations which require an elementary use of the language.

 

Diploma de Español B2

Candidates have the necessary knowledge of the language to allow communication in everyday situations which do not require specialized terms.

 

Diploma de Español C1

Candidates have sufficient linguiestic competence to cope in common situations of daily life which require a specialised use of the language.

 

Diploma de Español C2

Candidates have advanced knowledge of the language, allowing communication in all situations requiring use of the language a knowledge of cultural background.

 

PREPARATION COURSES

 

IHSJ Instituto Británico is an official DELE examination centre and also offers 20-hour preparation courses to help candidates become familiar with the structure and techniques of the exam.

 

DATES

 

All levels are available on all examination dates. Candidates take a mock exam on enrolment to determine their level.
