TRAINING: CERTIFICATE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING TO ADULTS (CELTA)
IHSJ INSTITUTO BRITANICO
Our school offers a double benefit to CELTA candidates: it is a member of International House, the world-renowned network of high quality language schools, and it is also an authorised examination and teacher training centre of University of Cambridge ESOL Teaching Awards.
International House
The teachers and advisors of International House were instrumental in the development of the principles and techniques of communicative teaching which were adopted by Cambridge ESOL and now represent the world standard. They continue to be at the forefront of new developments.
IH schools comply with a series of statutes that guarantee the service provided to its customers, including the qualifications and experience of their training staff. For further information regarding the International House World Organisation, visit: www.ihworld.com.
University of Cambridge ESOL Teaching Awards
Training for CELTA means receiving the best training there is. Quality control is an integral element of all courses. Plans are submitted to Cambridge ESOL before the beginning of the course, the course is monitored by an independent assessor representing Cambridge ESOL, and final grades are decided in conjunction with the assessor.
The CELTA qualification from Cambridge ESOL is the most widely accepted qualification for teaching English as a foreign language in the world and teachers obtaining the certificate have not only the ideal base for building a professional career but also a wide choice of job opportunities. Instituto Británico is the only authorised centre of Cambridge ESOL in Central America. It has been an examination centre for more than 20 years and a teacher training centre for more than 10.
Full details of Cambridge ESOL CELTA training and qualifications are available at: www.cambridgeesol.org/exams/teaching-awards/celta.html
OUR CELTA COURSE
Our course tutors are experienced, Cambridge-qualified, trainers and practising EFL teachers. Candidates have access to our extensive resources of class and other materials, a benefit which is extended for six months after the course. As our candidates come from all over the world, there is a stimulating mix of nationalities and cultures to be enjoyed.
Our teacher training centre has continuously better results than the world average published by Cambridge ESOL.
OTHER SERVICES
Our premises have a small café and wi-fi internet connection. We offer twenty-four hour emergency health and personal assistance. (Students coming from abroad should take out a medical insurance policy before travelling). Homestay accommodation with local families can be arranged on your behalf or we can supply a list of local hotels and hostels if you prefer. We have a network of reliable travel agents that can help you choose and book tours.
COSTA RICA
As well as our academic credentials providing candidates with an excellent place to train, our location in the tropics gives candidates a real alternative when choosing where to apply.
Costa Rica is a well-known travel destination and is a magnet for nature lovers. A comfortable climate that avoids extremes, a system of national parks that covers more than a quarter of the country, and a friendly informal way of life make this a very attractive option for combining training and travel. For many candidates coming from abroad, Costa Rica, with a cheaper cost of living than many other countries, is also a more economic option.
Costa Ricans are very willing and communicative students and it is a pleasure to teach them. They attach a lot of importance to having English on their curriculum vitae and in general there is an impressive culture of learning.
Candidates wishing to stay on in Costa Rica to work will find many job opportunities in the large number of schools here.
